Happy Thanksgiving!

I am grateful this day to be able to post my expressions of gratitude a crossed the internet on various social platforms. Grateful for the insights of men as they established a government body to add a constitutional amendment for holding that right. May we never take it for granted. Happy Thanksgiving!

The bus, the bench, and the clocktower in the park.

The bus, the bench, and the clocktower in the park.

This past week as I was out and about at a small park waiting the time for the transit bus for the area. I came across a bench with a plaque and a picture on it about A couple with the name Joe and Jewell Reidhead whose house had been on the spot of the park around 1948 (Roosevelt, UT). A really good informative read and the bench was a good spot to sit and wait for the bus. Sometimes the small delays we have in life give us a moment or three to learn some interesting tidbits of the places we see and live in. So, look around you at the places you pass and see. Snap a picture, take a few notes, and look at the small stuff seldom observed. Just like a big book the world has a lot to show us. The old saying is “Stop and smell the Roses”. Look up some of the rare find that are around you and check them out. Make life a little bit of an adventure.

What is a key day? Well, it is……

What is a key day? Well, it is……

What is a key day? Why is it important? Well, call it a birthday of sorts. Many of the world might even call it a first day of a new life. Clean date. Sober date. What ever it is you call it; it is just that and more. If you see one these medallions or chips just know it came from not one but many rounds in the ring with twelve steps to change what was to what is.

We all have a story in life. Some stories have the dark with the light and those that have walked that path are some of the strongest people I know. “I’ve never met a strong person with an easy past”.

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference.

You may not be in a problem that forces you to make a change but the twelve steps have helped many a soul with just the every day run of the mill life pit falls also. Maybe just grab a problem and run it for a test with the steps and see where it takes ya.

What ever happens with you know this fact that I have come to know. God is there, he is real, and loves us.

Short Cake Biscuit Recipe by the Crazy Soul

Short Cake Biscuits-
4 cups flour                                    1 tsp salt
4 tsp baking powder                     1/2 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar                                   1 ½ cup milk
Combine dry ingredients together (sifted is best). Cut in butter. Add milk. Mix well but not over stirring. Roll out and cut to rounds about 3”. Bake at 400 for 15 to 20 minutes or gold brown. Makes about 12 to 14.
**This has been a favorite of the Crazy soul family for years. A simple fix’n but so good. Biscuits and gravy is a thing for most of us. Enjoy their friends and please pass this along to others so they too can say “Y’all pass me another biscuit”!

And I will make you fishers of men........

And I will make you fishers of men......

Mathew 4:19 And he saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

~Life is a fragile balance

My address for a friend at his memorial service:
Normally I speak to groups of people under different circumstances about changing life directions and putting twelve steps to work with a little help from a Higher Power. It's difficult when your friends leave for the ultimate fishing adventure without you and ole Shawn is probably at the biggest heavenly lake with a mutual friend Henry reeling in the big one. Many of the people in Shawn's life have known him since he was born but I have to feel he and I knew each other long before that. My wife and I moved to Vernal a few years ago and after a few moves around the area landed in a church ward that we knew really no one. We went to a ward dinner party and you know being new and knowing no one just picked a spot at a table and started talking to somebody. Not long and this younger couple came. We introduced ourselves as D and Bonnie and somehow how things stuck on us being called Bonnie and Clyde. I grew out the stash once again just for you, Shawn. When we met, I had this look (a fu-man-chew) Since then I have had many a good time with him and at some point, some of those I will have to pen and blog about them. Even in moments of dire pain he had a way of getting me laughing. We would often laugh about life and the fun writings of one of our favorite writers in the world McManus. In the past few years his body wasn't cooperative but yet he still reached out as a fisher of men to many around the world. He urged them to connect with God and assured them that he is there and loves them. In spite of his own challenges he was quick to assure me he (himself-Shawn) was there for me if I ever needed a hand and that God is also there for me too. He told me that even on his rough days he felt God by his side helping him along. Until we meet again my brother from another mother, happy casting at the heavenly lake as you catch and reel in that big one.

A post from social media:
Life is a fragile balance that can easily start and end. Earth has lost and yet heaven has gained greatly. A fine fisherman of both men and fish left us yesterday. We knew each other only a short time in this life but yet we somehow knew we had met before this life. Our first meeting in this life was coined "Bonnie and Clyde". Shawn you are and will be greatly missed. To Shawn’s wife and young son, we love y'all.

**These have been slightly changed from the originals but not much.

~Where are you?

“Where are you? I’m here and ready.” Henry was a character and a half. Fisherman and joker of sorts. Mind you ole’ Henry was someone you didn’t meet every day. The fish feared him and teenagers hung around him. Church going people grew to love him once they got past his rough exterior. Ya see Henry had seen a few things in his life from the rough neighborhood, the military, and a bit of hard living. When I met him, he was all in to hanging with Jesus and being a fisher of men. We would be getting ready to go on an outing and there he was calling and saying “Hey, where are ya?” He was ready to go. I could always count on a reminder text and then a call. The fish would jump on to his hook. If you were head to the river, the lake, or any place fun or fishing was or even could happen he was in. He could always tell a great story and when he would tell of fishing and catching the big one, he was not exaggerating a bit because he could catch them. I was super saddened one afternoon not to long ago to hear about a tragedy at the lake with Henry. One more friend gone without me. Yeppers, another friend on the ultimate fishing adventure casting and hooking on to the big ones at that heavenly lake in paradise. He will be missed in this life greatly but he is hanging with Jesus and those fishers of men we know of old that cast their nets and filled their boat with fish and the souls of men. Happy fishing their buddy!

Mathew 4:19 And he saith unto them, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

He lives today

He lives today

Greatest man in history, named Jesus, had no servants, yet they called him Master. Had no degree, yet they called him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet he conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today. if you believe with your heart and soul please share with one friend today.

We are still in the ring

We are still in the ring

It would seem that the lock down of accounts has also hit the Crazy Soul. We are still here in the blog. However, the road leads us with this and where Facebook will end up with the “Notes from a crazy soul” page. The world we live in is getting super crazy and we will yet see it get more so as the good Bible and Book of Mormon tell us. We are still in the ring and battling life. Hug your families. God is real and loves us.
